So, this is a piece that I painted about a month ago entitled "Like A Patient Etherized Upon A Table." It is inspired by one of my favorite poems, "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" by T. S. Eliot. I was inspired by many mental images throughout the poem, and this one was one of the images that stuck out the most in my mind. The figure in the "patient", which represents us as people in a state of vulnerability. The cityscape represents what we think a city is, vibrant, colorful, and full of life. The sky represents what the city actually it; old, polluted, and somewhat ominous.
This piece was finished around Christmas, and it is entitled "Darkness a la Diebenkorn". I really tried to play with sensitive color mixing and proportion of color. The low value key is a very helpful palette limitation for me, because i have to try harder to mix colors that fit within a set key.
I discovered that I REALLY LOVE COLOR around this time. Color is a way of thinking to me, and it helps me to express emotions and such through color. I don't like object matter that much because you can get very attached to what it looks like, and you lose focus on what it means to you.
I really like to let people see my work and the title of the work before I talk about it. I really appreciate each person's unique opinion about my work. I don't like giving too much background information to someone before they have been able to form their own opinion, because background information can change one's opinion drastically.
